Thank you so much! I'm so happy you liked it, and found it moving and true to the characters. I'm especially happy the atlas/Jess metaphor worked, because I was afraid that might be a little much (I actually edited some of it out - the extended metaphor went a little over the top, which is why metaphors and I tend to be unmixy things).
I really like how you wrote their parting scene, the way it’s hurty in a wonderfully quiet way. I’d like to think it was like this, rather than a huge blowout with Dean watching Sam slam out of their lives.
Yeah, I would like to think it happened this way, though knowing John and Sam, I'm afraid it was more the big blow-out and the slamming door. Sigh.
