When I saw your name on my assignment my first response was shock, then awe. When I was done thinking a combination of "Shit. How can I possibly remix Ari?" and "Cool! I get to remix Ari!" my thoughts went pretty directly to "There is no way in Sheol that Ari won't recognize me remixing her story. She knows my style way too well for that. I did make some superficial efforts--I didn't steal from my own works as extensively as I could have--but in general I didn't bothher trying. I mean, I could have picked "Vanilla Dare" or something and tried to remix it in a way that was deliberately mediocre, but you deserved better than that. So I sort of went to the other extreme and tried to use my knowledge of you ("deep and true" FTW!) to retell your story. It kinda ended up as a fic with an audience of one, since few people who aren't you have the background to understand it, but I'm okay with that.
I'm not sure how I feel about W&H in Firefly--it's not a seamless transition--but it's too darned useful a trope not to use. It's like you once said about the use of Edenic imagery in a Lilah fic: "One day I'm going to come up with a whole new system, but today is not the day."
So, I really love where you've gone with architects of the multiverse and how you literally expanded this in the obvious direction I was going.
Hmm. What one person sees a flaw, another sees as an asset. I love your story for many reasons, but one is that it can't be pinned down. Yes, I "literally expanded" the story in one of the more obvious directions the story was going, but in so doing I opened Schrodiner's box. I don't regret this--after all, the original story still exists in all its multifaceted glory--but one of the things I love about "Incurable" is that a hundred remixes could be written and every one would be unique. It's such a rich, nuanced, and subtle story, where things can't be easily equated and figured out, and I sort of steamrollered over the nuances and subtleties in creating a world that was much more straight-foward. Which, again, not regretting, because it worked for the story I wanted to tell.
I don't remember who Kincaid was supposed to be. I feel like she was supposed to be a BSC reference but if there isn't a character with that name then that can't be the case. I agree that Claudia would fit right in this universe, though.
I've netflixed most of S1 of Dark Angel so far, plus I watched all of the Major Kira episodes during a Sci-Fi marathon.
Re: I really only wrote such a long comment so I could use multiple of my highly appropriate icons [
