which I think is how it would be - of course, John would notice that his son has missed out on the normal childhood things, and would want him to have whatever he could of it, even he were the driving force in taking it away in the end. And Sam wouldn't notice at all until he was old enough to see Dean as a person in his own right, rather than just as older brother and caretaker. And yeah, Sam is an awesome little brother. *g*

And this just strikes me as being so Dean: faking delinquency to cover up heroics and the fact that he is a good kid and team player.

I think it's one of the most interesting things about is character - the way he plays his image against who he really is - yes, he's this dangerous guy in a leather jacket with a muscle car and a criminal record, but he's also this obedient son who saves people from evil and does everything his father asks of him.... *sighs dreamily*
