Love the way that you've built up and fleshed out Jake as a character, and how this was such a story-for-life experience for him -- as well as a useful story to try to drum up backers. *g*
The original has that angsty, languid feel, which is perfect for the mood and experience she's creating. So your remix with its complete difference in tone and mood (great humor) while the frame of the plot is wonderful. To me, with the way the two stories are the same, but totally different in perspective is a wonderful reminder of how differently the same experience can be felt.
