This is great. I really loved the original, so you had a hard act to follow but you more than lived up to it. The Giles POV is a brilliant way to take on this whole situation - the way he's outside the rest of the group, by virtue of his age, yet within the group of the original Scoobies. The way his emotions progress through the fic is totally believable - from that drunken euphoria when it's first settling in that thy've survived, to the creeping grief and exhaustion.
The way he cares so much for all of them, and especially for Dawn and Buffy, was really moving. I love his longing to givem them both a home.
I adore the relationship with Buffy you'd depicted here. It was always something that I loved on the show, when they had those moments of connection, and your closing scene is just perfect.
